About Us
Seeding earth wisdom since 1989. In everything we do we aim to honour the ancient agreements with Nature. These agreements, which enabled our ancestors to survive and allow us to be here now, have largely been forgotten by western culture. We are re-membering Earth cultureâ??sharing visions and teaching skills of traditional livingâ??indigenous skills, herbalism, permaculture and sustainable building. As the seeds of wisdom inside us are watered and awaken, our connection grows and a more meaningful dimension is revealed. The World literally comes alive.

Practices (our standards for raising or making our products)
All our frozen products are processed and packaged in our home kitchen. All greens are washed, chopped and then blanched (put in boiling water quickly, then strained, this allows the greens to be preserved in the freezer without becoming freezer burnt). We then store them in our home freezer. Our pesto is prepared raw, with the exception of the roasted sunflower seeds. Our Sauerkraut and Miso are fermented, raw foods.

9 available. Order number of bags. a complex rich blend of nutritive and relaxing herbs designed for women of all ages. It's also good for men, but not in the same way. This is a very grounding tea that primarily supports the blood and nervous system. It feeds not just the cells in our bodies but the intercellular matrix our cells live in. Herbs like Marsh Mallow, Horse Tail and Raspberry help in this and many other ways. While MotherLode is a mild sedative and relaxant, it doesn't suppress the nervous system, making us drowsy, but rather supports it. Many of the herbs in this blend like Motherwort aid in balancing the hormones and working with the nervous system. This herb works in truly magical ways - helping us to step back from our anger, frustration and sadness so we're not consumed by them, so we can work with them. (For men this tea is excellent in the nutritive sense but generally the hormonal magic isn't there). There are also many cleansing and nutritious herbs in this blend that everyone of all ages should be getting, such as horsetail, Nettle, Plantain, Raspberry and Clover that are so good as a daily tonic.Nettle, Raspberry leaf, Anise Hyssop (flowering tops),Motherwort (pre-flowing tops), Plantain leaves, Horsetail,Marsh Mallow leaf,Mint,Red Clover flower, Rose Petals

Login to order #5229 Sacred Gardening: Seeds for the Reemergence of Co-creative Agriculture Sacred Gardening: Seeds for the Reemergence of Co-creative Agriculture
Order number of book s. Sacred Gardening is the twin book to"The Story of the Madawaska Forest Garden" , born from the same place and time. But like most twins they couldn't be more different in character. Sacred Gardening is bold, confrontational and illuminating. In his second book Steven Martyn takes the reader into a world beyond science, reason and the history we have all been taught; into an indigenous world, where the Earth herself is our teacher, where we reside in the company of Gods and where we live surrounded by the reassurance of Her divinity, in all of Nature . Look both ways when getting immersed in Sacred Gardening, because this book is an intersection, where permaculture meets indigenous land use and our schooling and rationality collide with the mythological reality of the Earth. In challenging both conservative and alternative views of gardening and land use, this book opens the possibility for a new chapter of co-creative polyculture. The Madawaska forest garden is one example of this type of agricultural, presented in his first book. And Steven gives us many other examples in Sacred Gardening. These pages sketch out a new way of working with the land, find their legitimacy not from western literature, but from a more ancient and reliable source, Indigenous culture and the heart of living Earth. Sacred Gardening looks at pre-historic land use and the evolution of agriculture, with sweeping views from our distant past to our sustainable future! Steven leaves us with a sense of Hope and call to action; to molt our corporate cocoons and reclaim our indigenous, co-creative, handmade life.

Login to order #4605 The Story of the Madawaska Forest Garden The Story of the Madawaska Forest Garden
Order number of books. The Story of the Madawaska Forest Garden: Co-creating Integrated Polyculture, by Steven Martyn "When humans first began to garden it was a ritual to feed Her; to feed that which gave us life. Gardening didn't start as just another act of taking. It was a giving, a literal and physical metaphor of reverence." -Steven Martyn 2000, forest garden workshop Excerpt from The Story of the Madawaska Forest Garden: In this book, I hope to demonstrate a way of working with the Earth whereby all the beings of a given place are acknowledged as the guardians and co-creators of that place. A way of gardening in which these beings are sacredly approached, and worked with in their photogenic capacity. I'm interested in promoting gardening as consensus, gardening as communion, and gardening as an extension of the ecological continuum, of which our human evolution is also part. The Story of the Madawaska Forest Garden brings us from the realms of history, philosophy and theory into the intimate folds of the living Earth. This book shows us that it is not only possible to work with the Earth in a way that feeds life and culture, but that this is our ancestral birth right. This book sheds a new light on the co-creative origins of agriculture and civilization. Steven Martyn shows us down in the dirt, what our obligation is to our partners, the plants and Wild Earth. The forest garden is a cumulative co-creative expression born from three decades of working with the Earth as a landscaper, grower and wildcrafter. The idea for the garden started with a longing to work with the wild land in a co-creative, non-invasive, non-exploitive way, like a wildcrafter/forager does. After some initial attempt on wild land by Algonquin Park Steven's longing called him to teachers (the Lacandon Maya in Mexico) who gave the insights the Madawaska forest garden is founded on. Upon arriving home in Ontario, Canada, with this revelation about forest agriculture, Steven's research into similar land use in Ontario lead him to an MA on traditional plant use in the South Algonquin territory and to actually making an integrated polycultural garden in the wilderness. This book contains the story of the Madawaska land, and of the history of land-use in area, as well as the steps taken in making the Madawaska Forest garden. There are abundance growing techniques as well as life lessons for the reader to draw from this story and way of working with the land. Unlike even the most radical forms of organic agriculture, such as permaculture , this un-permanent form of traditional Native gardening does not claim exclusive domain over the growing territory. But rather it works in a synergist way with those already present on the land, with the surrounding ecology; and with the lands natural successions of healing growth over time.
